Just last week, developer miHoYo released its latest game titled “Zenless Zone Zero” on mobile, PC and on console. Yes, that’s “console” as in singular, as the latest game by the studio is only available on the PS5 console, and it seems to be staying that way.
In the release trailer for the free-to-play action-RPG, Sony confirmed that Zenless Zone Zero is a PS5 console exclusive by matter-of-factly stating it at the end:
As you can see, it states that it won’t be available on other consoles until “at least six months after release date,” which means the earliest time Zenless Zone Zero can possibly be released on the Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series X|S is on January 2025, and even then that’s not a certainty. For reference, miHoYo’s other games Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are also not available on other consoles outside of the PlayStation brand.
In case you’re not familiar with Zenless Zone Zero, here’s a brief description (via Wikipedia): “Zenless Zone Zero is an action role-playing game. The player assumes the role of a Proxy (the protagonist known as Wise or Belle), a character who helps others explore the hostile alternate dimensions called Hollows. As they advance, the Proxy will recruit new members to their party as they continue to fight the Ethereal and other enemies. In addition to the Proxy, players also use assistants known as Bangboos.”
While not being released on other platforms seems like a counter-productive move to have as much gamers play your game, Zenless Zone Zero did manage to amass 50 million players in just a few days, so I guess miHoYo knows what they’re doing.
It looks like for those who want to play Zenless Zone Zero on console, you won’t have any alternative in the foreseeable future outside of the PS5.
